The Cabin

By: kirwin

I am located in a new portable on a far end of the school campus. We decided to call our portable The Island, I am cabin 21 on The Island. Im using plank board paper to cover my icky colored walls. I bought outdoor pillows and cushions for students to use on the floors or as back supports on self made recliners (flipped over chairs). I have 2 standing desks available along with areas to hide and learn (tight spaces) for kiddos needing solace. I have foot bands on several desks for kiddos to use as wiggle time. I have exercise balls for students to sit on and leveled lighting. We start our day off with big family oval to make sure everyone has eaten and then we do some breathing techniques before we start our day. Many of my kiddos come to school with stress or heartbreaking backgrounds. Here, in Cabin 21, they are loved, respected and safe. Ive gotten so many compliments from our teachers and administrators about the cabin look and how nice it is but also bright with natural light. I used wooden crates that I pained for book shelves and old industrial wire spools for book shelf. Im including inventions, old fishing poles, creel, gear clock, bike wheels hanging from the ceiling as spinners and lots of nature (mushroom types, dragon flys, bees, flowers, leaf types from tree species and a writing station that is LOVED!
